 Keystroke POS System Configuration

The Keystroke system can be custom designed to meet your needs.  Because the system is an open architecture design, a variety of printers, cash drawers, scanners, etc, can be implemented.  Below are various devices we recommend based upon value and reliability.

Printers

The Samsung SRP-270 Series offers high speed 9 pin Dot Matrix printing.  This printer is available with a Serial or Parallel interface and features semi-automatic paper loading.

The Samsung SRP-350 series offers extremely fast, yet quiet, thermal printing.  With speeds up to 40.7 lines per second, you won't have to wait for a receipt.  No need to worry about ribbons with this printer.  Paper loading has never been easier.  This very reliable printer comes in either a Serial or Parallel Interface.  The Samsung SRP-350 printer is our top choice for a receipt printer.

Cash Drawers

Cash drawers come in a variety of sizes, interfaces and prices.  Unless there is a specific need, we recommend a drawer with a receipt printer interface.  These are the most reliable and affordable.  If you are not using a receipt printer, you will require a serial or parallel interfaced cash drawer.

The Model 80 cash drawer comes with a 48" RJ-12 cable to connect to most receipt printers on the market.  This space saving, standard model measures 15-3/4"W x 17-3/4"D x 4-1/4" H

The Model 88 cash drawer is a heavy duty version of the Model 80 cash drawer above.  This model measures 18-1/8"W x 18-1/8"D x 5"H.

The Model 81 is a deluxe cash drawer.  This model features 2 media slots and a stainless steel front.  The media slots could be used for inserting checks or credit cards, without the cash drawer opening.  By opening the drawer as little as possible, your level of security is increased.   The Model 81cash drawer is our top choice for a cash drawer.

Scanning

Scanners come in a variety of styles and presentations.  Scanners use either CCD (small glowing red lights) or a laser beam to read the barcode.

CCD scanners normally require the barcode to come in contact with the scanner.  Although CCD scanners are generally less expensive, because they require the barcode to come in contact with the scanner, this tends to slow down the scanning process.

Laser scanners come in a single beam or multi-beam configuration.  The single beam requires the beam to cross the barcode at an approximate 90 degree angle.  The multi-beam scanner projects a pattern which will read a barcode label at just about any angle.  The laser scanner will read the barcode anywhere from a few inches to a foot or more away from the scanner (distance depends upon the scanner).  Because of the additional speed the provides, we recommend a multi-beam laser scanner for most installations.

The Metrologic MS6720 scanner is an example of a mulit-beam laser scanner.  This scanner comes with a stand to accept most items, the scanner can also be picked up for large size or heavy objects.

The Metrologic MS7100 scanner is an example of a multi-beam laser scanner.  This scanner is designed to be set on the counter to scan items.  The scanning head may be adjusted up or down to suit the needs of the installation.

Customer Display

By adding a customer display, your customer can watch the items being entered and know the total of the sale.  These devices have many interfaces although connection to a standard serial port is most common.
